What watertight means for a 3MF mesh
A watertight mesh has no open edges in the resolved build geometry. Build-item and component transforms are included in this check.
Why closed surfaces matter before slicing
A closed surface gives a slicer a clearer inside and outside. Open edges can lead to gaps or unexpected material regions.
Separate parts may be intentional
A build can contain separate closed parts. Their presence does not automatically make the result fail.
Watertightness is not a full quality check
Non-manifold edges, orientation, printer configuration and slicing remain separate concerns.
FAQ
Does my 3MF file get uploaded?
Yes. It uses the same secure processing flow as other InspectMesh analysis tools.
Can a 3MF contain multiple parts?
Yes. Multiple separate closed parts can be intentional.
Does watertight mean it will print?
No. It checks surface closure, not every printing condition.
