3D Print Shrinkage Calculator

Turn measurements from your own calibration print into per-axis scale compensation for the next model.

Use a test printed with the same printer, material, orientation and slicer profile as the part you are designing. Material names alone do not provide a reliable universal compensation value.

Measure a calibration feature

Print a simple test with known X, Y and Z dimensions. Enter the original model dimension and the caliper measurement for each axis.

Formula: scale factor = designed test dimension ÷ measured print dimension. Compensated model dimension = desired final dimension × scale factor.

A positive shrinkage result means the test print measured smaller than its CAD dimension. A negative result means it measured larger. Confirm important fits with a second test; this calculation does not guarantee final dimensions.

Use compensation carefully

  • Calculate hole and pin clearance separately; whole-model scaling does not solve every fit problem.
  • Check the exported STL dimensions before slicing.
  • Read the shrinkage compensation guide.
