Volumetric Flow and Print Speed Calculator

Calculate requested extrusion throughput from actual line width, layer height and linear speed. Compare an optional measured profile limit.

Plan your next job

These editable example values are illustrative, not physical print measurements.

Your planning result

Approximate requested throughput
9 mm³/s
Approximate speed at entered throughput
Unknown - no limit entered

Method and interpretation

Approximate Q = width × height × speed, in mm³/s. At an entered throughput, approximate speed = Q / (width × height). No throughput limit is inferred from a material or nozzle name.

Rectangular cross-section is an approximation. A calculated speed is not a recommended machine speed: acceleration, small paths, cooling and quality can dominate. Extrusion multiplier calibration is a separate task.

Method and reference documentation - reference reviewed 4 October 2026. Profile-specific limits still require their own evidence.

Prusa nozzle and profile lookup

Use your exact printer and hotend documentation when considering a nozzle change.

Lookup, not a fitment claim. Diameter and nozzle material do not establish thread, length or heater compatibility.

Actual nozzle control

The same owned 20 mm cube sliced at 0.2 mm layers, explicit 0.45 mm line width and 45 mm/s perimeter speed gave estimates of 23m 49s for a 0.4 mm nozzle and 23m 45s for a 0.6 mm nozzle in PrusaSlicer 2.9.6. First-layer width stayed at 200%. Changing diameter alone did not give a fixed speedup. Compare validated profiles and the whole sliced job; no physical timing or universal hotend ceiling is claimed.
