Nozzle, Layer Height and Wall Planner

Keep nozzle diameter, extrusion line width and layer height separate. Estimate equal-width wall lines before checking the slicer preview.

Plan your next job

These editable example values are illustrative, not physical print measurements.

The layer is within that starting upper limit. This does not establish a suitable minimum layer height or guarantee this profile.

Method and interpretation

The nearest positive whole line count is round(wall thickness / line width); nominal thickness is line count × line width. This is a simple equal-width estimate. The 80% nozzle-diameter layer check follows Prusa starting guidance.

This is not a slicer simulation. Extrusion shape, line overlap and variable-width perimeter engines change real walls. A 1.3 mm wall and 0.45 mm lines give three nominal lines (1.35 mm); preview the actual toolpaths before altering CAD.

Method and reference documentation - reference reviewed 4 October 2026. Profile-specific limits still require their own evidence.

Prusa nozzle and profile lookup

Use your exact printer and hotend documentation when considering a nozzle change.

Lookup, not a fitment claim. Diameter and nozzle material do not establish thread, length or heater compatibility.

Actual thin-wall slicer control

PrusaSlicer 2.9.6 was run on three owned bars (0.3, 0.45 and 0.9 mm wide) with 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.2 mm layers, 0.45 mm line width, two perimeters and no infill. Classic reported 83.41 mm filament and 3m 32s; Arachne reported 142.10 mm and 5m 28s. The perimeter engine changes what gets traced. These are software estimates, not physical prints or recommended printer settings.

Inspect the actual toolpaths using the Classic and Arachne preview files. Do not print the CLI demonstration exports.
