3D Printer Fit Checker

Check whether an STL or 3MF bounding box fits a selected printer, with clearance, right-angle rotation and scale context.

Printer and clearance

Use custom build volume

Replace the selected nominal volume when your slicer or manufacturer specifies a smaller usable region.

Establish physical size first

For STL, confirm a known dimension under the intended unit assumption. For 3MF, check declared units and the placed-build envelope. An arrangement's total bounds need not be the size of one part.

How fit is calculated

The checker compares resolved millimetre dimensions with the selected usable build volume after subtracting your margin. Automatic mode tests only axis-aligned, right-angle permutations; it does not claim arbitrary-angle optimisation.

Why a slicer can still reject a model

Nominal build volume can differ from the usable region. Multi-colour purge towers, support space, sequential-print clearance and manufacturer exclusions can require more room than a bounding box.

Compare nominal bed fit without changing intended scale

An illustrative 250 × 210 × 180 mm bounding box fails a 180 × 180 × 180 mm A1 Mini envelope and fits the A1 nominal 256 mm cube. A 200 × 100 × 50 mm box on a 180 × 180 × 250 mm envelope can fit when its 200 mm axis is upright.

Interpret the result and choose the next step

These are geometric box decisions. Do not equate nominal fit with available brim clearance, support practicality or wearer fit for a helmet. Verify the model footprint in the actual slicer; split or scale only when the changed real-world dimensions and joints are acceptable.
