3MF print preparation

3MF Print Preflight Checker

Resolve one 3MF print build locally before slicing: package unit, build-item dimensions, printer fit, mesh integrity, sampled wall thickness, complexity and whether a volume estimate is meaningful.

Run a local 3MF preflight

Your selected file stays in this browser. It is not uploaded.

Select a non-empty .3mf file, up to 25 MiB.

Need the broader workflow first? Read how to check if a 3D model is ready to print.

Choosing between STL, 3MF and other formats? Read the best file format for 3D printing guide.

For a closer look at thin-area findings, read the 3D Print Wall Thickness Guide.

After slicing, inspect the final file with the G-code Preflight Checker.

Try an example

How do resources, placements and declared units affect the STL export?

Settings: 3MF uses declared units. Conversion offers entire-build or single placed-item scope in millimetres; generate and verify explicitly.

Downloads this public control, then opens it locally. Your own file can still be chosen above.

How this 3MF preflight works

The checker resolves supported 3MF build items, component references, transforms and repeated objects in your browser, then measures that final build in millimetres. It does not substitute a raw resource or first mesh for the placed print arrangement.

Wall thickness is sampled at up to 2,000 triangle locations, so it can miss narrow features. A clean result cannot guarantee a physical print: material, nozzle, orientation, supports, calibration and slicer settings still matter.

Example workflow

A build with open edges, thin sampled areas and an oversized resolved arrangement should be repaired first where that is safe, checked again, then reviewed in the Dimensions and Wall Thickness Checkers. Do not solve a mesh defect by scaling it, and do not convert to STL unless a geometry-only copy is genuinely needed.

3MF preflight FAQ

Does this check every object placed in a 3MF build?

It resolves supported placed build geometry, including repeated objects and transforms, before analysis.

Why can a declared unit still need review?

A unit declaration gives useful scale context, but it cannot prove the source export used the intended physical size.

Can this guarantee that a 3MF will print?

No. It is a pre-slicing screen, not a replacement for the intended printer profile and layer preview.

Interpret the resolved 3MF build

Trace missing 3MF parts and placements

A mesh-based 3MF can declare physical units and place build items with transforms. Review the resolved dimensions, not just one object in the archive. Missing explicit units use the format default; unsupported package behaviour must stay unresolved rather than receive a clean badge.

Interpret the result and choose the next step

A two-item build can contain legitimate disconnected parts. Shared topology and volume interpretation need care: multiple shells do not automatically establish a single solid. Fit uses the selected nominal printer box and does not validate slicer reservations, embedded profiles or supports.

Check supported 3MF collections
  • One resource, two placed cubes

Self intersections and nested-shell solid interpretation are not checked. A completed check is not a print-success claim. Confirm design intent and review the intended slicer setup. How these checks work.
